林老師的主要研究領域為氣固反應的動力學。 他研究固體廢棄物鋅回收之氧固反應，所研究的固體廢棄物包括電弧爐粉塵及氧化鋅廢觸媒。 此外他也探討水溶液中重金屬移除的動力學。

• 民國64-70年服務於淡江大學化工系，曾擔任副教授、教授及系主任諸職。
• 民國76-77年擔任美國俄亥俄州州立大學冶金工程系之客座教授。
• 民國67年榮獲中國化學工程師學會最佳論文獎。
• 民國68-85年間獲頒行政院國科會之甲等年度研究獎助。
